Life is Beautiful – Day 2

Day 2 we did more exploring because we didn’t have bands we wanted to see til later on in the day. Saw a couple random bands, wall murals, and cooking demos. And took embarrassing jumping pictures.
This band named Five Knives… was horrible.  and the singer was gross and crowd surfed in a small dress..  we were laughing so hard at how ridiculous this was.
Haim was a group Ive been looking forward to seeing for months now. They didn’t disappoint.

I wrote my thoughts on them here a little while back.

proud to say we were standing in the very front , so I had to use someone elses video that was standing a little behind us.

That creepy curly headed guy that’s always lurkin’ behind us is our friend Brock… if we didn’t know him I would be worried too.
I have to acknowledge the many many “bass faces” that Estee, the Bass playing sister makes.
There’s a tumblr blog dedicated to her here. I think its well earned.

Later that evening we saw Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend (shown above), and The Killers.. one right after another. We wanted to get as close as we could to the Killers.. as did everyone else. So we were squashed for about 5 hours, surrounded by strangers, some of which didn’t smell that good, which is a given when people are at an outdoor musical festival for 2 days .. but I assure you, its was all worth it….
to be just that much closer to The Killers.
I’ve never seen The Killers live before. I’m glad that I waited to see them til now. One, because it was the last show of their tour. And two, because it was in Vegas, and they went above and beyond and really showed their love for Vegas. Gosh, I have goosebumps thinking about it. Brandon Flowers kinda has a grandpa-like voice when he talks to the crowd. I think its kind of charming and adorable.
Brandon Flowers gave a shout out to Lou Reed, the former The Velvet Underground singer, songwriter and musician, who had passed away earlier that day. He talked about the impact he had made on him as a musician personally. I loved that part.
Lastly, an Elvis Viva Las Vegas cover that blew my mind. It was the greatest surprise addition to the set list.
It was a perfect weekend! I think the goal of the festival planners was to provide an atmosphere that made you sit back and realize …man, life really is beautiful.. and for that I thank them.
Can’t wait for next year.
Life is Beautiful – Day 2

Life is Beautiful – Day 1

This weekend was therapeutic yet exhausting all at the same time. Yes, that is possible. Here’s how..
Vegas Downtown decided to host a new festival called “Life is Beautiful”. While researching all about this festival I came to learn that the makers who brought LIB to Las Vegas wanted to create a festival that is different than Coachella or Lollapalooza but had its own spice so festival goers wouldn’t have to choose one or the other, but rather BOTH.
LIB provided a 4-way threat to set it apart from other festivals:
1. Music
(the obvious)
 2. Food
(chefs from all over to share their food and cooking tips)
 3. Art
(art exhibits in all rooms of a motel, tons of amazing murals on the walls of downtown, as well as cirque du soleil performances)
4. Learning
(Guest speakers with all kinds of motivational insight to share)
That being said.. 2 days of restless, sitless, leg throbbing fun.

Alpine – Aussi band.

Me, Jerilyn, and Britt

Jeri and I

Nico Vega.

I post this only so I can remember how she came out in the crowd and stopped right in front of me.. I had to move or my face would have been on her stomach.

yeah she’s awesome.

All I wanted to ask this kid was, “where are you parents?”

Andrew McMahon (Formerly Jack’s Mannequin)

There was a whole lot of attractive boys on this stage during this set. Wasn’t complaining.

A huge highlight of day one was listening to The Buried Life boys talk to us. They’re still beautiful, funny, and changing lives if you were curious. Check out my last experience with The Buried Life.

we got to Imagine Dragons a little late and the crowd was HUGE.. so it was impossible to get close. They put on a great show though. They collaborated with cirque performers for the last song. See in video.

4:18 and on. fabulous.

BECK. dude, beck might be an oldie.. but he is definitely still a goodie, he killed it.

Every time I decide to just bring my phone along for the photo documenting, I regret it a little. Especially if its things far away you’re trying to capture its a grainy mess. But at the same time, I don’t want to lug around my nice camera and worry about it getting stolen or damaged. I can’t win.

But alas, Day 1 was a huge success. I expected for it to be a little unorganized, for it being LIB first year, but I was very impressed how smoothly it all went.
Stay tuned for Day 2 coming soon.

Life is Beautiful – Day 1

Rooftop with T&S

It was high time for a little after work hooky time. And by hooky I mean a concert. Lucky for us it was a rooftop and pool side show at the Cosmopolitan. Probably my new favorite venue. I most likely wont say that when its 115 degrees in a couple weeks. But hot dang, last nights weather was perfection. No wind. 70 degrees. Couldn’t have been better.
Me and my friendship Cathy Snavely devoured sushi before the show.
concerts are great and all; A group of people coming together to enjoy music they mutually enjoy, its my favorite past time. But theres something  .. something so fascinating to me when seeing a group that you have followed from the beginning of their career.. Its just a thing that I love a whole ton, so i’ll stop before I tear up.
Remember that one time Cathy and I (above) went to a Tegan & Sara concert when I was in high school. Around the same time I went through my platinum blonde stage. imsorryimnotsorry
Now that we’re all grown up, we still homies.. And we thought it only appropriate to see them again before her and her family move to Florida for 2+ years. First concert and last concert (til she returns).

you take your car to work.. i’ll take my board.

Rivers.. I always thought that was a rad name, not only because it was the first name of my favorite bands lead singer in the 8th grade. I finally got to see Weezer in concert. Its about time right? Even tho their two newest cds werent good. thats all i have to say about the new stuff… NOT GOOD. Sorry but its true. Old stuff??? BUCK. can. not. lose with Blue or Green album. and basically got me into music when i was a youngin..
bless you Weezer.
Homeboy Scott Shriner bassist was wearing a kilt. I dont care one bit. When you are 46 and still rocking OUT… wear what you will. Is he Scottish, no idea.
i took a ton of videos but they take too long to upload so i just did everyones fav, Say It Aint So
i love how casual Rivers dresses. He’s the man.
I have a dad crush on him.
I forgot to say it was at the Red Rock Hotel pool side. and mid show, Rivers jumped in and got his legs wet… then at the very end He jumped all the way in and fans decided to join him. you cant really tell by this video because it was crowded, but it was legendary.
“in the garage.. i feel safe”
Luckily they played majority old songs. ended up being SO GOOD!
you take your car to work.. i’ll take my board.

how the locals do it

I made the mistake of taking a coma of a nap today after work, so now I cant sleep.

We all say that we love summer and its many majestic features they have on us..

sun, swimming, watermelon, shark week .. sun.
But, i’m a believer that every town has its own perks during the summer. The thing that you only know about if you have spent a good amount of time in that town. I’m so blessed to have people in my life that through a matter of events became friends with them.  Once again i wish i took more photos, because this week consisted of alot of fun LV based activities and incredible friends. heres a few:
Me and the beautiful Emily Stolworthy reunited and went to The Drowsy Chaperone play at Spring mountain ranch outdoor theater on the edge of town. AMAZING play, hilarious. Alfonso was by far the best character.
I love spending time with this girl. Together we know how to laugh at eachothers dry humor and basically everything. sorry for the very POOR photo quality.
I went to a battle of the bands for Sal (fellow lifeguard) , which frickishly took me back to high school and the insane amounts of time i spent at local shows. Sal’s band, Inherit the Sky ended up winning the battle. He even gave us a shout out on stage, and said “HARTKE SHARKS!!”… and we replied with a “HAWR HAWR!!”  perfectly in sync. Sal’s a rockstar, and beyond talented. Check him out.
the pool today was so serene and slow motion. Thats the only way to explain the way we felt. At least me and Trevor thought so. I would sit there staring at the gray sky and my body felt numb almost and every motion I did was slow mo. I don’t do drugs, so this must have been a recipe of the weather, the water, and ambiance. It felt so good. I tried to capture a taste of the day.
lastly, some songs of the summer.
would you sue me if I said I liked this cover better then the original. no hard feelings AF.
i’m gonna lay it down right now, this girl, Nanna Fabricius is right up there with Emily Haines, and Amy Millan. bold statement. I guess their more popular song is Sun of a Gun. All of Oh lands stuff is worth listening to.
and because every music post deserves a throw-back. and Trevor, a co worker of mine lives for the Ramones, heres a little treat. Why do i go so long without listening to the classics. They only made all the good music today happen. Thank you Johnny Ramone.
That might have been an overload of music.
Happy first week of August. Its gonna be a good month, i can feel it.
