Creating 2017

Anyone else drive past a gym today and see the overflow of resolution-ers? I love that crap, I really do. Next week there may be less people at the gym but today there were a TON, and more power to ’em. I haven’t been much into resolutions for a while, I don’t know if I actually believe in them. I don’t like needing the 100% or nothing outcome, because sometimes 85% sounds amazing. There was this one year in college I wanted to be Vegan for a month, I did it, and it felt good because I fulfilled it, but that was that, it was too short term and I went into it knowing I wasn’t going to do it forever. I think sometimes we confront resolutions with doing things we don’t like. Diet? ugh. Workout? ugh. Pay off debt? triple UGHH. What about doing more of the things we love?!

Something I know with out a doubt to be true is I love CREATING THINGS. So 2017 I will continue to make & create things. Back at the beginning of 2012 I was about to start my last semester of college and deeeeep into being an art major and really enjoying it. All I knew at that point about making things (in regards to art) was, “Do art often. pieces that will suck, because a wise mind once told me that to truly become great at something, one must execute a large body of crappy work, that you know is crappy.. that frustrates you, so that one day greatness will have come through hours and hours of practice.” How pretentious am I to be quoting myself quote someone else from 5 years ago haha.. but guess what, nothing has changed about that fact. Make things often. Make things that suck. Just make things. Do it. JUST DO IT!!! Don’t make me google a GIF of Shia Labeouf flexing. In case you were wondering, this is a pep talk to myself, but if it gets you thinking that’s cool too.

So, for now, here are 3 things on this list:

-Make 2-3 blog posts every week. Write from the heart.

-Get the 5 rolls of already shot film collecting dust in my room developed. Keep shooting.

-Learn and execute some new artistic outlets. A few in the works: podcasting, jewelry making, acting (don’t laugh) and ceramics.

I’d love to hear what you guys have planned for the new year? What are your thoughts and beliefs on resolutions? Please share!
